When men work outside the home and women stay at home with the children or vice versa, over time a gender division of labor takes effect. The person working outside the home does his/her best to provide for the family and the person at home does his/her best to raise the children. Clearly the person at home spends more time with the kids and develops a stronger bond with them. What happens if the person at home now decides to brainwash and abduct the children and walk out of the relationship? Suddenly the left behind parent realizes that they wished they had spent much more time with the kids since they find themselves left holding the bag.
Parents working outside the home need to balance the amount of time they spend at work and the amount of time they spend with their kids. Families should ensure that division of labor does not take a stronghold since although division of labor can be a boon in industrial settings, it can lead to disaster in a family setting
